Digital Platforms and the Brazilian audiovisual market
InternetLab, in partnership with It for Change and with the support of the International Development Research Center (IDRC), developed the project to explore the legal-institutional arrangements that regulate the platforms, and to think about public policies that address the problems posed by this new scenario, with a view to inclusion and socio-economic development.
InternetLab, in partnership the It for Change and with the support of the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), is developing the project “Policy Frameworks for digital platforms – moving from openness to inclusion.” The project has the participation of 13 researchers from Asia, Africa, Latin America, Europe, and North America.
Central to the economic activities in the digital era, the platforms substitute and reconfigure the markets, restructuring financial transactions, and the flow of information. Before this, our goal with this project is to explore the juridical-institutional arrangements that regulate platforms and think about public policies that address the problems created by this new scenario, keeping in mind inclusion and the socio-economic development.
As part of the project, InternetLab is conducting a case study on the regulation of on-demand videos transmitted through the over the top system (VoD OTT). Our goal is to investigate the impact of the platform economy on the Brazilian audiovisual market, notably regarding the user access to these services, the types of contents available, and the financial contributions to the State.
